Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino and Incheon International
Airport Corporation (IIAC) President and CEO Mr. CW Lee signed an agreement today establishing
O'Hare International and Incheon International Airport as "Sister Airports." This is the fourth sister
airport agreement the CDA has established in Asia over the last week.
"On behalf of Mayor Richard M. Daley, we are honored to establish this new partnership with Incheon
International Airport Corporation," said CDA Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino. "With this agreement,
the CDA is gaining a valuable partner in Incheon International Airport which has been recognized by ACI
as "Best Airport Worldwide" for passenger satisfaction and innovative technology for six consecutive
years. We believe there is much to be gained by working together with IIAC and we look forward to
advancing our common interests and shared vision for our airports."
In recent years, Commissioner Andolino and the CDA have shared information, best practices and new
ideas for sustainability with South Korea. The agreement, signed in Incheon, outlines the process for
the airports to share technical, commercial and environmental best practices, and set up joint working
groups to work cooperatively on a wide range of areas including airport management, customer service,
construction, planning, operations, information technology and sustainable development.
During her visit, Commissioner Andolino was invited by IIAC President CW Lee to attend the 1st ICAO
NGAP and TRAINAIR PLUS Regional Conference hosted by Secretary General Raymond Benjamin of the
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Mr. Jong Hway Chung, Minister of Land Transport,
Maritime Affairs (MLTM) for the Republic of Korea, and IIAC President CW Lee.
Commissioner Andolino also met with officials from KORAIL, the owner and operator of the express rail
connection between Incheon International Airport and downtown Seoul, to discuss Chicago's interest
in establishing airport express rail service.
Earlier this week, CDA representatives attended the Routes Asia 2011 Conference in Incheon and met
individually with several airline representatives to discuss opportunities for increased and/or new
passenger service at Chicago's airports.
Commissioner Andolino traveled to South Korea following her trip to China as part of the Chicago
delegation visiting the country to discuss business and economic opportunities with international leaders
and to further Mayor Daley's agenda to strengthen economic opportunities between Chicago and China.
